Why try accountability coaching?

There’s a famous quote from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, “To thine own self be true.” It means be true to yourself; don’t alter your values to please anyone else. Uphold your beliefs!

At Upways coaching we call this accountability – to thy self! And when you set up daily habits that align with your core values, you will gain clarity on what a best life looks like. Because step by step, you are literally walking into that better life. As professional accountability coaches, we walk alongside you every step of the way - with amazing tools and strategies that will keep you accountable to your goals.

HALF THE BATTLE IS SHOWING UP

Attempting anything new requires patience and time. Even the smallest daily changes take persistence and faith to stay on course. That’s why rule #1 with accountability coaching is – surprise - ya gotta show up. It really is half the battle, as they say. Our dedicated coaches meet clients each week for check-ins and focus sessions - by phone, Zoom, WhatsApp, and FaceTime. We make time six days a week, in any time zone - worldwide. Our sessions range from 20-45 minutes, where we discuss your key focus points – what’s top of mind for you that day – and we review (and practice) mindset shift tools. At the end of each call you choose 1-2 small, specific action steps you will take in the week ahead. And we mean small. For some, it’s “drink 32 ounces of water every day.” Others are going to “drink one less cup of coffee each day.” And some will “start leaving 15 minutes earlier for work on Tuesdays and Fridays.”

“Big things have small beginnings.” - Prometheus

There’s no question about it. The value of a partner whose purpose is to show up every week with the tools and encouragement to keep you moving forward is BIG. We all know how tough it is to face those days alone when you’re out of steam and feel most overwhelmed. One client calls us her “fitness coaching for the mindset and soul.” Your coach shows up every week, reminds you why you’re on this path, and keeps you focused - all the way to your next finish line.

GOT A GROWTH MINDSET?

Most clients agree that the best part of coaching is the journey itself. Finding out what they can do. Working through the steps with another human. Processing thoughts and clarifying plans. Our weekly check-ins and focus sessions lead people – from every walk of life - to challenge their beliefs – one small step at a time.

“My view of life is so different since I started this process,” says our client in Dubai. “What would be the alternative? To live my “sort-of” best life? How dismal; no thanks!”

The quickest path to positive change is being willing to shift your mindset and be open to trying new things. Those who are serious about exploring what’s possible appreciate that we work from a growth mindset philosophy. Psychologist Carol Dwek first introduced the theory of growth and fixed mindsets in 2006, with her book “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.” According to Dwek, those with a growth mindset believe we continue to learn and grow throughout our lives. Those with a fixed mindset believe our capacity for growth is finite. “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right,” said Henry Ford. At Upways, our growth mindset approach profoundly impacts our clients’ motivation, achievement, and belief in their growth potential. It’s at the core of all we do.

BABY (ACTION) STEPS

Adding a weekly check-in and committing to one small action step can seem daunting at first. But you’ll quickly see why hiring a coach gets you further – and keeps you motivated to stay on track. And we’re not talking fast and furious progress here; our clients hire us to slow down their carnival ride! Our weekly process is methodical and gradual. Each step is small but significant, and our process works. We start with your core values – what are they? Then choose one small, specific action step that aligns with these values. Maybe you’ll leave 15 minutes earlier for work every day; drink 32 more ounces of water daily, or get to bed one hour earlier at night. With persistence, small steps build a new habit. The more you trust the process, the sooner you’ll feel the positive change.

TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE

Shakespeare was right. Being true to ourselves and upholding our values is the key to a best-lived life. It’s a lifelong endeavor. We are all here to learn and explore all we’re capable of. To genuinely hold ourselves accountable to all we can be. And yet, so many of us barely scratch the surface. Fear, doubt, and uncertainty can cloud our vision from the wonder, joy, and surprise that is around us. As accountability coaches, we are professional windshield wipers! Every week we show up, prepared to challenge your mindset and channel that fear and doubt into positive actions that will boost your momentum and defog your vision. Our clients will happily tell you that when you feel your daily actions align with your core life values, the road ahead looks so much brighter.
